Behind the Tempos.
We are Barend and Astrid—both 39, based in the Netherlands, and driven by a passion for exploring the world. In our day-to-day life Barend operates as a product director and strategist in the tech space, while Astrid works as an HR advisor in the healthcare sector.
When our daughter was born seven years ago, our travel behavior didn’t change. We didn’t alter our routes, swap adventure for predictability, or anchor ourselves to local family resorts. We simply kept going.
However, we constantly recognize a heavy cultural narrative around us: the assumption that ambitious professionals must compromise their sense of adventure the moment they start a family. We never accepted that premise. Tribe And Solo was born out of that observation, not as a reinvention of how we travel, but as a blueprint of how we have seamlessly maintained our two distinct, lifelong travel gears.

Why Tribe and Solo?
This website isn’t a polished digital photo album, and it’s definitely not a travel agency brochure. We created Tribe And Solo to share the real, unfiltered reality behind how we travel.
We know how easy it is to slide into a predictable routine when you’re balancing a career and a family. But we also know that you don’t have to choose between shared family core memories and your own personal freedom.
Whether you’re looking for a solid 14-day itinerary to explore Central America with a kid, or seeking the architecture, chaos, and sharp focus of navigating an Asian metropolis entirely on your own, we’ve got you covered. No fluff, no toxic positivity. Just practical inspiration and realistic roadmaps for people who refuse to trade adventure for a standard resort.
